The Comeback of Little Nyonya

My sisters & I just couldn't get enough of Little Nyonya, so much so that we decided to dress up in kebayas for Chinese New Year! We specially went to Geylang to shop for these kebayas, which prices ranged between $20 & $130.
It's really fun to dress up on CNY Day 1 for visiting. It's the only day besides Christmas / Halloween when you can wear something outstanding or different from your usual style. I personally enjoy wearing traditional costumes, so it has been cheong sams for the past few years for me.
It was the same old visiting routine on both CNY days - maternal grandparents' house for lunch, eldest uncle's place (paternal side), eldest auntie's place for lunch (maternal side) & second eldest uncle's place for dinner (paternal side).
Here are some pictures from our visiting session:

Happy Niu Year!!

It's the 1st day of the Lunar New Year~
This also means that I'm into my second Zodiac cycle (Ox), i.e. I'm turning 24.. Damn..
My lucky number for the year: 8
My lucky colour for the year: Yellow
Positive Characteristics:
Diligent, stable, and possesses a strong sense of purpose. These people build long-lasting friendships.
Negative Characteristics:
Stubborn and bigoted. Ox people aren’t often flexible.
Chinese Astrology Horoscope 2009 for the Ox:
Romance will improve in 2009, and many single Oxen will discover new opportunities for love. A much steadier and more positive year is in the forecast overall. Family life is strong and even joyous. Steady progress in career is indicated. New friendships and plenty of reasons to celebrate. As such Ox in 2009 will have a busy schedule, big pressure from every direction. Do not be too stubborn to insist your own principals. Bad gossip will be around. Boss will watch closely at the Ox. Do not argue with colleagues, supervisors or the bosses. Be open minded. Take extra care with the diets. Eat healthily, more vegetables. Try to avoid beef or steak. Do more exercises. For exercises, need to make sure there is sweating for every exercise.
As a whole, the key in getting through this year is to keep a low profile. Play your part & get by everyday. Hopefully I'll have a smooth year this year..
Here's wishing everyone "Cai Yuan Kuang Jing, Shen Ti Jian Kang"!

3 Stars for Red Cliff 2
Watched Red Cliff 2 yesterday at Vivo City, the continuation to Red Cliff which screened a few months back.
Personally, I felt it wasn't as interesting as the first part. But if you like to watch the battle scenes then you would enjoy the show. I prefer watching the planning & the strategising parts, which were kinda lacking. There was only 1 strategy used - fire attack & which was decided on the wind's direction.
My favourite part of the movie was the part where Zhuge Liang promised to produce 100,000 arrows for Zhou Yu's army after Liu Bei retreated his army from the alliance. Zhuge Liang made use of the fog to mislead Cao Cao's navy, used ships lined with straw & scarecrows to collect the arrows that Cao Cao's army fired at them. In order to direct Cao Cao's arrows towards his ships through the fog, Zhuge Liang instructed his army to maintain a constant drumming to guide Cao Cao's army's firing. The smartest part of all was when Zhuge Liang let 1 small boat float back to Cao Cao, which confirmed Cao Cao's suspicion of his 2 admirals plotting against him. At the top of his anger, Cao Cao beheaded the 2 admirals whom he realised he had to rely on them to lead his navy. That started Cao Cao's failure in the battle.
Oh ya, at least Lin Chi Ling had alot more scenes in this movie, more lines & she played a part in delaying Cao Cao's attack.

Rocking in Gotham Penthouse
The entire bunch of us (13) party-ed the night away at Gotham Penthouse (Clarke Quay) last night:
- 6RB (minus Dajie) - WRTS - Lays - Margaret - Lingzi -
It took quite some time for everyone to agree on a nightspot, cos the guys didn't want Butter factory & the girls didn't want to go where the guys wanted to go (some club that I can't remember). Eliza & I have got VIP membership at Gotham, so 8 of us can get in for free plus a discount on bottles. Most importantly, music was RnB all night. What I like about Gotham Penthouse is that cos the crowd is small, there is enough space on the dancefloor for everyone, i.e. there is no pushing & shoving.
There used to be half hour dance performances at fixed intervals throughout the night every night, but now they have a live band playing for about 30mins, 3 to 4 times through the night. The band is really not too bad, really heightened the atmosphere & infecting everyone with their energy.
And of course, here are some of the pictures from the night:

6RB Reunion Dinner on 16 Jan 09
It's another yearly tradition for the 6 of us to meet up just before Chinese New Year (CNY) for a dinner (this year's being our 7th reunion dinner together). This year's dinner was organised by Ah Ber - dinner at Chin Huat Steamboat, opposite Novena Church. Unfortunately I got to know from my colleague that the food there isn't very nice, so we changed our plans & had dinner at a Japanese restaurant located inside Revenue House.
Over the years, some things just never change.. Eliza, YTK, Dajie & myself were almost going to faint of hungry while waiting for Ah Ber & HRJJ, so we decided to start eating first. Starting without them was a good decision cos they only arrived after 7pm!
Dajie & Eliza longing to start eating...
YTK received a call from Ah Ber, only to realise that Ah Ber decided to take a bus!! Dajie giving her irritated expression as usual.. Ok it must the hunger.. or it's the hormonal changes in her that are caused by p--g---cy? Bleah!
Yeeks! It's not Hungry Ghost Festival yet lei... Hahaha..
Topic of the night (at least until I left) was about the Legendary Characters during our Poly days. There was Haolian, Pink Mei, Ghost, Bao Long & list goes on.. We were really fond of coming up with nicknames for others, & talking about our poly days brought back lots of fun & laughter. Unfortunately for Ah Ber, who had minimal recollection of her poly life, started to question whether she even attended poly!
The award for Most Memorable Lecturer (for bad memories) went to the lecturer who uses the entire cake of purple eyeshadow on her eyes.
The award for Favourite Lecturer goes to Victor Joe, Alice Tang & a few more.
Happy Lunar New Year to 6RB & till we meet again.. which happens to be tonight @ Gotham Penthouse! (except Dajie).

Another New Skill
Another new skill to learn -
GOLF!Yup, I've just signed up for golf lessons today. 20 one-hour lessons for $540 in a group of 6 pax, which includes attaining a Proficiency Certificate (PC) and a handicap test. Quite worth the price actually, except the fact that you are sharing the instructor with 5 other people at the same time. I'll be taking the lessons with Lawrence, Lawrence's friend & his wife, Elin & her boyfriend Keith.
The instructor, Jason, is really nice and he's very flexible with his lessons. For instance if only 3 people in the group can turn up for a lesson, he would still conduct the full hour lesson for the 3, then conduct another full hour lesson for the other 3 on another day.
More information on this instructor can be found at:
http://www.jt-golf.com/During the orientation session with Jason, we took a short tour of the driving range at Nature Park Driving Range (Sin Ming Ave). And I bought my own pair of gloves in my favourite colour -
PINK! Looking forward to starting my first golfing lesson on 6 Feb (tentative).

Pictures from the Solemnization

Peter & Joanna's Solemnization

Attended Peter & Joanna's solemnization today, held on a yacht at 11am. Instead of the typical ROM at a restaurant where everyone would be all dressed up, Joanna printed t-shirts for all of us.
Front of the tee: "Peter & Joanna"

Back of the tee: "In God's Presence" & a pair of wings

The solemnization was followed by a cruise, starting from the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club to St. John's Island (going past Vivocity & the waters between Harbourfront & Sentosa). Lunch was served during a short anchor period at St. John's Island. Then we headed back to RSYC.
It's a refreshing change to the usual ROM arrangement - the weather was great, atmosphere was relaxing.
